All in a day’s work: dogs, car
parks and sanitation...
Patrick Salter
Hailing from Bendigo, Patrick Salter arrived in Darwin in 1955 to work in the police force. After 20 years and many interesting experiences later, Patrick left the force and became the town’s first City Inspector at Darwin City Council, as it was then known. From dog registrations to the introduction of paid parking, and getting Darwin back on track post-Cyclone Tracy, Patrick has been a witness to it all.
Patrick told his story live on Friday 1 December 2017 at SPUN at Darwin Festival themed 'Rewind' where we rewound back through Darwin’s history to celebrate 60 years of local government, shining a light on the stories that have helped shape this wild, vibrant town into what it is today.
